I grew up in Bellevue. I attended Birchcrest Elementary School from kindergarten to 6th grade. Then I went to Logan Junior High (as it was called then). I graduated from Bellevue East High School in 1994.
My father was a firefighter for 37 years, and my mom was able to stay home with my brother and I until I was in 7th grade.
My brother, Jeff Novotny, is three years older than me and is an administrator in Council Bluffs at Abraham Lincoln High School.
Both of my parents grew up in a small town in Nebraska named Clarkson. My father was an avid Husker fan when I was growing up, so I have that instilled in my blood.
I will root for any Husker!
